Embrace your cosy
What colour palette makes your living room feel more cosy?
All colour palettes are equal! You can make almost any colour palette into a cosy colour palette, but a palette that really works for us and really works for the cosy trend are those earthy tones. Think of beige, silver colours, light greys, taupe and stone shades.
If that’s too muted for you and you want to amp it up, add richer tones like sage, rust and dark brown that will elevate your colour palette and make it feel more luxurious.
What are your top 3 tips to achieve that cosy feeling at home?
Rule number 1
Turn off the big light. There’s nothing that kills joy in the environment more than the big light being on, everything being exposed and feeling a little uneasy in your home. Turn on the lamps and bring the light down. Make it soft and ambient, it’ll relax your mind and it helps you to set the scene. A warm-scented candle is a great choice to achieve a cosy mood.
Rule number 2
Always tidy up. Visual clutter can really play on the mind when you see it out; you just can’t relax when something needs to be put away. For me, to feel relaxed at home I have to tidy the clutter away. Even if you put it in a cupboard and just shut the door, make sure you declutter your space so you can feel relaxed in your own home.
Rule number 3
Additional comfort. Adding throws and cushions is a great way to add not only warmth but also visual textures. It gives that sort of “nesting” environment and adds to the feel of being embraced. Thick, deep-pile throws and squishy pillows are a must, with a textured rug for extra warmth underfoot.
What are the benefits of choosing chenille in a cosy makeover?
Chenille offers a very long list of benefits, including being a durable yet luxurious fabric choice. It’s been used for a very long time in the upholstery industry since its invention in the 18th century. It’s been a go-to choice for upholsterers because it’s soft to the touch and comfy, as well as having plenty of longevity, so you can relax on it year after year. Chenille is the french word for caterpillar, and that’s fitting because the texture is fluffy and extremely soft, it has a nice glimmer and pile and can reflect light in different ways.
What interior style is chenille a good choice for?
Chenille really transcends just one interior style because of its extreme versatility. It can take on any trend or colour palette and it can be short or long pile, so if you want the comfort and warmth from chenille it can really work in a modern organic trend, but it can also work for a modern Scandinavian minimalist look as well. It can also be really high glam, so if you’re into Art Deco then chenille is a brilliant fabric that will also work in your home.
How would you describe a cosy evening at home for you?
A cosy evening at home for me is all about restoring the soul - a pamper, if you will. It will start off with me finishing my skincare, I’ll make my way to the sofa with my hooded blanket, I’ll have a cup of tea with some posh biscuits and I’ll probably watch something really boring like a documentary on ancient civilizations! I might have a scented candle lit, which will help me feel relaxed, looked after and pampered.
