Small things make a big difference

PlanTree - part of the Woodland Trust’s Big Climate Fightback

The crises in nature and climate have been well publicised in recent years, driven by high profile figures, protests and campaigns. All of that has been overshadowed this year with the challenges that Covid-19 has brought in 2020, dominating our headlines and altering our way of life - but the crises of our planet still remain.

In the face of all of this, it can seem an overwhelming prospect as an individual to tackle climate change. That is where the Woodland Trust’s Big Climate Fightback comes in. Our partner in our PlanTree initiative, the Woodland Trust has a target of planting 50 million trees over the next 5 years - and it’s easy for everyone to get involved.

Planting trees is one of the best ways to tackle our climate crisis - trees lock up carbon and help to prevent flooding and reduce pollution. Climate change isn’t a simple issue but we do know by planting trees that this can only help towards having a positive effect. Furthermore, we need to increase our woodland areas - not only to address climate change, but to create havens for wildlife and boost biodiversity.

Our PlanTree initiative involves us pledging to plant 40,000 trees per year, in partnership with the Woodland Trust. These trees are supplied free to schools and community groups as part of the funded Tree Packs from the Woodland Trust. The Woodland Trust encourages schools and community groups to apply for these Tree Packs via their website, giving everyone the opportunity to join the climate fightback and get millions of trees into the ground.

Every tree counts in this collective effort to address climate change, so you can also buy trees to plant in your own garden via the Woodland Trust. In an effort to surpass their successful 2019 campaign that saw nearly 300,000 people pledge to plant a tree in the UK, the Woodland Trust offers a variety of trees to buy with free delivery so it’s simple to get involved from your own home.

As a responsible retailer, we want to limit our impact on the environment, and our mission to help our customers feel at home on a sofa that they love should not come at a cost to our planet. We’re proud to support the Big Climate Fightback and encourage everyone to get involved by
