Sofology Movember: Raising money in support of men’s health

We know our people love to get involved - especially when it’s for a good cause. When November 2019 rolled around, it brought with it a challenge that we knew Sofologists across the business would embrace: Movember.

The annual event raises money for the Movember Foundation, a charity that aims to reduce premature death rates in men by 25% by 2030. The event and the Foundation raise awareness of testicular and prostate cancer, male depression and suicide.

To take part we set up four separate teams in different areas of our business:

  • Team Operations
  • Team North
  • Team South
  • Team Support Office

The challenge? Grow a moustache in a month. Starting cleanly shaved in time for 1st November, we saw varying degrees of success by the end of the 30 days! But, whether stubbly or Tom Selleck-like in appearance, these moustaches did exactly what Movember hopes they will do - work as a conversation starter. By prompting a conversation about the top-lip growth, it gives men the opportunity to stop and talk about why they are taking part in Movember, raising awareness of the issues and the charity itself.

For Sofologists who didn’t want to grow moustaches, or couldn’t (sorry ladies), we offered the option of walking for Movember, raising money as they clocked up as many miles as possible during the month in support of the charity.

We loved seeing everyone’s progress pictures throughout the month and we couldn’t be more proud of what our teams achieved. We managed to raise a grand total of £4,000 in support of Movember, setting the bar high for Movember 2020!

We’re looking forward to next year, mainly to see if we can beat last year’s total, but also a little bit because it’s a joy to see all those furry faces throughout the month. Well done Movemberers!
